Profile
I am an all round consultant who has experienced the dynamics surrounding IT solutions from all sides. In the past eight years I have been working on designing and building solutions in software in the following roles:
- Projectmanager;
- Team leader;
- Consultant for clients;
- Freelance contractor;
- Client;
- Designer (functional and technical);
- Software engineer.
Having done up experience in all most all roles in this process makes me an ideal candidate for supporting the process of translating the clients needs into new pieces of software as a projectmanager.
I am a positive, enthusiastic and creative team player who has a clear style of communication and a good sense of humour. I have a very structured way of thinking, I am goal oriented and I always focus on solutions.
Work Experience
2011 – current: Interim subsidy advisor WBSO, Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) in Zwolle
The WBSO (Wet Bevordering Speur- en Ontwikkelingswerk) is fiscal stimulant package with which the Dutch government compensates part of the costs on labour which is spent on Research and Development. As advisor I judge if applications in the field of IT meet the requirements of R&D as described by law.
2010: Projectmanager ID/WD, StormMC in Groningen
StormMC is an agency which focusses on online marketing.
2008 – 2010: Designer / Team Leader, Ordina Oracle Solutions in Groningen
Ordina Oracle Solutions is part of Ordina; one of the largest IT companies in The Netherlands.
As a designer, I realized sollutions regarding the wishes and organisational issues of clients. I did this by looking at the current way the client did its work, and by coming up with ideas on how to organise it in a way which meets the clients wishes.
Usually my ideas landed in new agreements on how to work together; and in most cases I also designed software which made the execution of these argreements as efficient as possible (cheaper, faster and/or less sensitive to human errors). I wrote these designs down into documents which describe the fuctional aspects (functional design) and technical aspects (technical design) of the software.
My collegues (software engineers) turned the technical design into computercode. During the writing of the computercode I usually coordinated the team of software engineers and I made sure the designs where executed as intended.
2007 – 2008: Software Engineer, Ordina Oracle Solutions in Groningen
Ordina Oracle Solutions is part of Ordina; one of the largest IT companies in The Netherlands.
As Software Engineer at the largest supplier of Oracle databases in The Netherlands, I built custommade Oracle related software for administrative processes of customers. My job was to write the computercode which was based on technical designs of my collegues.
2006 – 2007: Organic Search Consultant, Traffic4u in Groningen
I worked as an Organic Search Consultant at the largest search engine marketing firm in The Netherlands. My clientlist included the largest webshop, the largest energy company and some of the largest holiday resort companies in The Netherlands. I gave my clients advice on who to make their website as search engine friendly as possible. Beside giving advice I rewrote the source code of websites in order to make them more search engine friendly.
Beside my task as an Organic Search Consultant I wrote a document in which dutch accessibility guidelines for websites are compared to technical pratices of Search Engine Optimalisation (SEO). Currently Traffic4u uses this document as part of her advices to a number of her largest clients.
2005 – 2006: Communications Employee, Nijestee in Groningen
As one of the webmasters at Nijestee, I was responsible for placing content on various websites which Nijestee maintained. Besides this task I was involved in the design of the new website for Nijestee, via which Nijestee wanted to provide a third front office.
2004 – 2006: Freelancer in Groningen
As a freelancer I focussed on building and maintaining websites. I saw this period as a learning period, in which the goal was to learn how to build websites which look good, have a good user interface, get their content from databases and pass the standards and accessibility levels as recommended by the W3C (highest standards when it comes to websites). The speed of building these websites should be at least as fast and efficient as my colleagues who build websites and have a B.A. in Information Technology. By now, I have reached this goal.
Besides reaching this goal, I’ve made flyers and illustrations for colleague artists and artists groups. I was also involved in the administration of the presales of a theatre production.
2003 – 2005: Backoffice employee, KPN in Groningen
At KPN I carried out data entry regarding the initiation of phone numbers, the changing of SIM-numbers, the extending of existing contracts and the migrating from pre-paid to post-paid contracts.
Because I thought that computers are more precise and much quicker at data entry than myself, I set out to build software which would take over my job. In order to get the best results, I first rewrote the working processes of the tasks to one which corresponded with the software KPN used. After that I build applications which took over my tasks in the data entry process. These applications where build in MarcoScheduler and used the abilities which the regular Microsoft Office Suit provides. Via these applications the data entry could be done 3 to 4 times quicker than average, whilst the chance for errors was reduced to a minimum. I also taught my colleagues how to use these applications.
2002 – 2003: Planner, municipality of Groningen in Groningen
As a planner of the unit Town Planning of the department of Town Planning And Economical Affaires I was responsible for keeping the administration of the planning up to date. I had to make sure that the employees kept track of their administration and that the administration of the planning was synchronised with the financial administration at all times.
Especially this last task was very labour intensive. In cooperation with the colleague who was responsible for the financial administration we rewrote our working processes in such a way that both our tasks where done in the most efficient way we saw possible. After that, I build applications in Visual Basic for Applications and SQL which automated almost all my tasks and corresponded with the software which the colleagues of the financial department used. By doing so, I reduced my administrative task from 3 full days per week to one morning per week. I built the applications in such a way that other planners could use them for their units as well.
I also built an application in MsAccess using Visual Basic for Applications and SQL with which the buildingapplications my department received could be registrared. With this application the building applications could be catigorised by type of application, address, neighbourhood, local area, date of entry and date of completion. With this application one could join digital documents (like e-mails, Word-documents, digital drawings, etc.) to the building application. The application stored these documents in such a way that the documents could easily be retrieved without using the application. After 5 maintance free years, the application was replaced by a new application that was deployed across multiple departments.
2001: Traineeship (student), municipality of Groningen in Groningen
During my traineeship at the unit Living at the municipality of Groningen I did an investigation on the application of a hallmark for newly built houses. Besides this task, I build an application in MsAccess which could registrar the documents used by the unit.
Jobs during study
- Warden at the National Telecom Administration Buro in Groningen. Tasks: controlling office supplies, servicing the meeting rooms, delivering packages throughout the organisation, solving minor technical defects;
- Jobs in various factories.
- In order to finance my hobby “creative bursts with which I entertain myself and others” during my study, I started selling my drawings and sculptures. To this day I still make and sell my works of art.
